IBO DAY

A festival celebrated every year since 1773 on the 24th June

Once a year, Ibo Day is celebrated on the island. It means “do not forget your roots, regardless how far you are from home“.
The festival has been celebrated since 1773, when Ibo gained its independence from Goa and became its own municipality. You can watch the annual dhow race where canoes and sailing dhows compete, listen to poetry readings by school children, experience traditional dance performances and enjoy the sense of community on Ibo island.
